Born and raised in San Francisco, Master Mike J. Ng began his martial arts training at the age of five in Shaolin Kung Fu. After attaining his Black Sash in Shaolin Kung Fu in 1997, Master Ng completed advanced training in the arts, while expanding his expertise to the internal martial arts of Tai Chi (Taiji), Bagua, Xing Yi, and Qigong (Chi Kung). He has since devoted his life to pursuing in-depth studies of the five major family styles of Tai Chi (Taiji), as well as in Qigong and Baguazhang, including the intersection of martial arts, medicine, and modern science.

 

Master Ng’s journey in the martial arts has afforded him the distinct privilege to study under the tutelage of Grandmaster Jia Shu Sen 贾树森, third President of the Beijing Baguazhang Research Institute, from whom Master Ng obtained Master-level training in Chinese martial arts, medicine, and philosophy.  Master Ng has also studied with numerous other leading experts and champions including Grandmaster Chen Zheng Lei 陈正雷 (world renown as one of the Four Diamonds of Chen Taijiquan), Master Gao Jia Min 高佳敏 (World Champion and the "Queen of Tai Chi"), Master Zou Yuan Ming 邹元明 (expert in Daoist philosophy, Nei Dan inner alchemy meditation, and Wudang traditions), Master Shu Dong Li 李书东 (disciple of Chen Taiji Grandmaster Wang Xi An 王西安 and Vice Chairman of the International Health Qigong Federation), Master Bryant Fong 方国旋 (USA Wushu pioneer and lineage holder in Hunyuan Tai Chi under Grandmaster Feng Zhi Qiang 冯志强 and Liang Style Bagua under Grandmaster Li Zi Ming 李子鸣), Master Zhang Hong Mei 张宏梅 (World Champion and former member of the Beijing Wushu Team), Grandmaster Tat Mau Wong 王达谋 (Southeast Asia Full-Contact Fighting Champion and Sixth Generation Inheritor of Choy Lay Fut 蔡李佛), as well as Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong 黄德辉 (Fifth Generation Lineage Holder of Choy Lay Fut and Yang Style Tai Chi) and his son Master Jason Wong 黄志刚, among others.

 

Master Ng's extensive experience as both a student and teacher of the internal arts ensures that we offer each of our students the highest level of quality instruction and personalized attention.

 

Dedicated to a lifelong study of heatlh and wellness, Master Ng earned his clinical Doctor of Acupuncture degree from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and holds a Master of Science in Chinese Medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM), completing over 3,000 hours of didactic and clinical hands-on training with patients from diverse backgrounds and conditions. He has also obtained specialized training in sports and physical medicine and is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) as a Corrective Exercise Specialist.  Prior to his career in medicine, Dr. Ng studied public health and health communication at the University of California at Los Angeles and University of San Francisco.

 

Active in the competitive arena, Master Ng is a USA National Level Wushu Judge; he often serves as a judge at many international and national level competitions including being one of the Chief Judges for Tai Chi and Internal Styles at the Tiger Claw Elite Championship (2017). Master Ng is a former member of the USA National Tai Chi (Taiji) Team and a 9-time International All-Around Grand Champion, having earned over 100 gold medals and first place awards in forms and weapons competition. He was ranked #1 in the nation in Internal Styles in 2010; that same year, he won the United States National All-Around Championship title and was elected to the United States National Traditional Wushu (Kung Fu) Team.  

 

On May 17, 2014, the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame honored Master Ng, inducting him into its Hall of Heroes, and naming him the 2014 Sifu of the Year for Chinese Arts. In 2015, Master Ng was awarded overall styles Distinguished Master of the Year in recognition of his competitive accomplishments and lifelong dedication to promoting and spreading the martial arts.  

 

With over 25 years experience in the Chinese martial arts and more than 17 years experience teaching students ranging in age from 7 to 75, Master Ng’s life passion is to promote health, harmony, and vitality for all through the practice of traditional Chinese martial arts and medicine. As an Integrative Health and Wellness Specialist, Master Ng works with private clients, small to large groups, and organizations of all sizes to design mind-body solutions that incorporate Tai Chi (Taiji), Bagua, rejuvenation Qigong (Chi Kung) therapy, corrective exercise, and his signature "Swimming Body" method of moving meditation, to manage stress and anxiety, improve balance and flexibility, boost energy levels, enhance quality of life, and increase range of motion and address muscle imbalances in patients recovering from injuries and surgery.

 

In 2012, Master Ng founded the ChampsForce Martial Arts Enrichment Academy (now the
Mike J. Ng Tai Chi and Bagua Institute) to provide the highest quality of professional martial arts instruction and wellness coaching through Tai Chi (Taiji), Qi Gong (Chi Kung), and Baguazhang, to the San Francisco Bay Area community.  Master Ng is also a college adjunct professor, speaker, and consultant on corporate wellness and has worked with companies and institutions such as Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase, Salesforce, Facebook, Marriott Marquis Hotels, Laufer Group International, Morrison and Foerster, Wikimedia Foundation, SAF-Holland, Lick-Wilmerding School, UCSF School of Medicine, and the University of San Francisco Center for Asia Pacific Studies.
